MGR's Memorial Day

Today Singapore MGR fans celebrate his 20th death anniversary. I knew this cos' my mom showed me the Tamil paper where tributes were featured for MGR. MGR or MG Ramachandran was an actor who rose to become the Chief Minister of India. His roles in Tamil movies always featured him as the good guy - the hero - who supported the poor. underdog and the rural folk. This laid a wonderful foundation for his future political career as people stopped making a distinction between the characters he played and his private persona. He was of course a very charismatic actor and a good-looking one.
